My Poetry Story

Do you ever wonder?

Have you ever sat in a field and listened to the corn grow?
Have you ever stared at the clouds and wonder where they go?
Have you ever listened to the cars on the street, the tires bumping on the asphalt they meet?
Have you ever felt a heartbeat upon your chest, felt like it was yours not theirs on your chest?
Have you ever looked at a hand with its veins and its marks, wondered where they’ve been what they’ve touched and taken a part?
Have you ever really listened to the bird as it chirps, is it responding to you or the other bird on the perch?
Have you ever wondered about the bug on your plant, how it got where it is how it climbed up the potted slant?
I know you’ve wondered what happens when you die?
We all have our thoughts about the pearly gates in the sky.

- Jen Adams

I wonder when I actually started writing.  It's easiest to say that I've been writing my whole life.  I can for sure say, that I've been wondering my whole life. Poetry gives my wonder a home, a place to roam outside of my head. My journal was my first best friend, and as I turned with the sun, poetry became my long-lasting lover.   Writing is my meditation, it's a place I go where I feel most alive and the most at peace.  For someone who struggles with focus, I fancy the attention that easily flows when I'm in the zone.  I'm passionate about all forms of expression.  I believe we are all struggling artists; we're all just struggling to let our art be made, be seen and be heard. I'm passionate about inspiring others to feel the freedom that comes from peeking inside and making it creatively come alive on the outside.

One day I read a poem to a friend.  I then read another poem to another friend. I remember the sweat in the palm of hand, I felt naked and afraid. Yet what I began to realize was that my poetry wasn't for me, it was for you.  Maybe my poetry isn't even from me, it comes through me. I came to realize that people loved my poetry.  So, I kept writing and got more comfortable reading and slowly began to call myself a poet!

And then, I gathered up all my musings and published a book, "Sage Soul and Flowers poetry from the soul".  It's illustrated by an amazing artist and friend, Brooke Kelley, which made the whole project even more special.

...Let my energy rise, let me be wise and BE with all that is before my eyes.

sweet like a cherry

Love roams freely in the field. Its beat beautifies and heals. It rides on the back of the spotted hued horse. It beats so boldly, it knocks down doors...
